Frequently Asked Questions About LEGSys™

LEGSys is a two sensor system, one sensor worn on each shin. LEGSys+ is a five sensor system, one sensor on each shin, one on each thigh, and one on the waist. Both systems are wireless and stream data using Bluetooth. The advantage of LEGSys+ is improved accuracy of spatial gait parameters (speed, stride length, and step length), as well as the ability to measure knee and hip angles.

Yes, simply purchase the LEGSys+ upgrade package and you will receive three additional sensors and a license to upgrade your software. E-mail sales@biosensics.com for more information.

Each LEGSys purchase contains Windows or Mac software (please specify when ordering), wireless motion sensors (2x for LEGSys and 5x for LEGSys+), and an AC charger (standard US plug) for each motion sensor. LEGSys software is included with the system and does not need to be purchased separately.

LEGSys software is supported for Windows 7 and newer, as well as Mac OS X versions 10.7 and higher. Minimum system requirements are a 2.8GHz processor and 2GB RAM. LEGSys is not optimized for ultra high resolution displays (e.g., 4k, Apple Retina Display, Quad HD, or WQHD).

Yes, both systems use the same motion sensors.

LEGSys sensors should be worn on the front of the leg with the label facing out. Consult your user’s manual for more information.

Depending on how often you are transmitting data, the motion sensor should last for 4 or more hours.

The LEGSys motion sensor is not waterproof though it is designed to withstand typical moisture and sweat encountered during everyday usage.

LEGSys uses MEMS gyroscopes to measure the rotational velocity of the legs and proprietary algorithms to accurately compute gait parameters from these measured data.

Yes, LEGSys has been validated against camera-based motion capture and over-ground pressure sensing mats. The patented LEGSys algorithms have been in use for more than a decade and have been used in many clinical publications.

Yes, LEGSys works on uneven terrain and when walking along curved paths.

LEGSys measures speed, stride length, cadence, number of steps, left and right stance percent, left and right swing percent, and double support percent, as well as variability in stride length, time and velocity.

LEGSys software generates PDF reports. These reports can be included in the patient’s medical records to document improvements in gait in response to therapy.

LEGSys can be used to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the following reimbursable procedures/assessments: physical performance test (CPT 97750), gait training (CPT 97116), orthotic training (CPT 97760), prosthetic training (CPT 97761), therapeutic exercise (CPT 97110), neuromuscular re-education of movement (CPT 97112). LEGSys can be used to objectively evaluate patients in orthopedics, neurology, geriatrics, stroke rehabilitation, prosthetics & orthotics, physical therapy, and many other areas.

All BioSensics products come with a 30-day full satisfaction money-back guarantee. If you are not satisfied with LEGSys for any reason you can return it for a full refund (not including shipping costs). In addition, LEGSys carries a 1-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and comes with one year of technical support and free software upgrades.
